All for my art

This weekend the lovely Sara D. invited me over for a pumpkin carving party, so with much enthusiasm I purchased a pumpkin and packed up my trusty serrated knife and headed over. Having not carved a pumpkin since 2005 when I was studying abroad in Florence, I was a little out of practice. I successfully cut the top off the pumpkin, scooped out the pumpkin's slimy, gooey innards, and tediously separated out the seeds for Sara to roast, and carved an homage to the great Salvador Dali's moustache. My masterpiece was complete and all of my fingers were intact. But wait! It would not be an evening with Sarah if a weird, unfortunate event did not occur. So, as I'm heading out the door the knife I had brought breaks through the plastic bag I was carrying it in and falls to the floor grazing my big toe. It immediately begins gushing blood and the blood drains from my face as the reality of having to be rushed to the ER floats into my thoughts (okay maybe I'm being a LITTLE dramatic). Luckily I was in a room full of future doctors who jumped into action, stopped the flow of blood, assessed that I would not die and that I did not need stitches and bandaged up my toe. So as usual I hurt myself doing nothing, but at least I have a lovely halloween jack-o-lantern to show for it!

  1. What a lovely carving - I'm sure Dali is in ecstasy over this pumpkin-incarnation.
