Journey to Ohio
Heading to Ohio for the holidays, which means a 13 hour drive ahead of me. To get through this super long drive I've turned to books on tape (well CD). I was apprehensive to try them at first, mainly because my first experience with one was AWFUL! It was in high school when I had to read the House of Mirth. I could not get through it, so I got the book on tape, because I thought listening about whiny 19th century women would be easier. Not so. It was so annoying. The voices, the rewinding the tapes, the story, everything. For my drive to Ohio over the summer I decided to give it another go and bought Water for Elephants on CD. First the entertainment in the car is great, although I hate how they only have one reader meaning that when the reader is a male, the females have male falsetto voices. I hate it. Water for Elephants is very good by the way. I think it would make a great movie. I imagine Jake Gyllenhal as the lead male which makes the drive WAY better. Also, went to Ruby Tuesday in West Virginia and got a straw with my wine. Entertaining end to a boring day in the car.

Confessions of a Window Dresser
I took a class in exhibition design this quarter and I must say I didn't learn a whole lot, but we did design some holiday windows for a local modern furniture store, 24e(http://www.24estyle.com/). I helped mostly with the red window (my fav. personally). I think they turned out fairly well since we had a very, very small budget. No Simon Doonan window, but I'm working on it. Happy Holiday season!
Window I worked on. (You can't see it in the pic, but there
is silver cord strung all over the walls. I helped string)
Custom 24e snowflakes and SCAD Furniture.
Arctic Circle window. Mmm... penguins and bertoia chairs.

Some Savannah Randoms
I'm DONNNNNEEE with Fall Quarter. My last quarter before I begin thesis work. I was planning on working on thesis over break, but I have so much fun stuff (like going to Europe) planned that we'll see how that goes. Anyway for one of my classes this quarter we had to make a Thoughtless Acts Journal (http://www.thoughtlessacts.com/) based on a project that they did at IDEO (amazing group). Anyway a thoughtless act is something we do without thinking about in response to our environment (ie for women, putting your purse over your chair back at a restaurant). So I've spent the last quarter taking pictures of these acts as well as other random things I've seen around Savannah and here is one of my favorites that will hopefully put you in a Thanksgiving mood as well. This is what the Pilgrims looked like in Florida.

How do these people find me???
So sorry I didn't post yesterday. I was coloring. Yes, I color in grad school. The professonal term is render, but essentially it is coloring and it took me the whole day to do two drawings. When I was a kid I could whip out the coloring book pages in a few minutes (I was not a very precise color-er and am still not). Anyway, I got home from the studio today and saw my mail a waiting me. In it was a small white envelope with the words "Are you a Christian Single?" emblazoned on the front. "No, I am not," I answer politely. Yes I am single, but I'd say I'm more agnostic than Christian. Anyway out of curiosity I opened it and found a profile for myself to fill out along with testimony that went something like..."The lord led me to singlesplus dating service and it is his will that will find someone for me." Personally I've found it takes more than God to find a date, but maybe I'm not praying hard enough. I also don't understand how the single trait of being Christian is all people are looking for. I mean does the exclusive factor that being Christian means we're going to be soul mates? I'm more interested in what your favorite color is or if you think exercising is important or a spectator sport. I also find myself wondering how the whole world knows I'm single. Do I have an arrow following me around pointing at me saying "Look Here She Needs Help in the Dating Department!" Obviously only the dating services see this invisible sign and not the menfolk. I mean on facebook I get ads for finding the perfect Christian, Asian, and overweight mate (those are all seperate, not together). I think I'm sending the wrong message somwhere, as I'm not Christian, Asian, or THAT overweight (not that I'm opposed to any of the former, it's just I'm not exclusively searching in these qualifiers). Where are the are you looking for Brad Pitt look alike ads or the sweet will treat you like a princess boy ads? I'm so over this. Christian Singles ad in the trash. Hiding out from plight of being single because I didn't follow God's advice...

It's Finals. I'm procrastinating. I'm posting.
I'm Baaaaack. I was reading my friends' blogs (which are so entertaining) and decided to do this thing where you post everyday for a month regardless of what it is. My one friend who I think is an amazing blogger writes things she has overheard so I'm going to do the same, because let's face it, my life is just not that interesting.
So I was in line at a fabric store waiting for them to cut my sparkly felt for the holiday windows my exhibition design class installed for a local furniture store when I overhead these two older ladies discussing Snuggies (inspired by the DIY snuggie project the store was advertising. You too could be the proud owner of a personalized Snuggie. The possibilities are endless).
Lady One: "Oh, those snuggies. Mine is my uniform."
Lady Two: "They're great. I have this zip up bathrobe I like to wear backwards. I've been doing it for years. It's just like a Snuggie."
Lady One: "Did you know you can get them for your dog?"
I just had an amazing mental image of these ladies sitting in their snuggies with fido also wearing the blanket with arms. Genius.
