1) While watching Toddler and Tiaras I often ponder how much therapy these girls will need. For instance one pint size princess has a split personality and calls herself Darla she is being passed off as a 4 year-old trying to pass for a 21 year old. It's just creepy.
2) Why does a 50% off sign make me want to buy just about anything? There must be some marketing ploy at work, getting me to want to buy a Yiddish A Day calendar at Barnes and Noble tonight. I mean who doesn't need to know yiddish when it's 50% off.
3) Found some new and exciting book titles that I plan to read when I'm retired. I'll share them with you if you so desire to read them before your 65.
The History of the World in 100 Objects by Neil MacGregor
How Georgia Became O'Keeffe: Lessons on the Art of Living by Karen Karbo
4) I received an email today advertising tickets to a symphony concert playing the music of Zelda. Yes, the video game, not the Fitzgerald. As I scrolled down farther in the email I noticed that the Atlanta Ballet will be performing Men in Black. Seriously what are the arts coming to?
5) TLC has really weird programming. Like "I Cloned My Pet." Perhaps it's not a bad idea. I'll have to watch and see.

Thanking my lucky stars that I've already filled out the common app
This weekend I've spent an inordinate amount of time with high schoolers trying to get into college and I'm thanking my lucky stars (and my parents) for birthing me in the 80's when kids weren't so ambitious. I mean I've done the research, I've read about the Millennials and I've seen tinges of the professed generational personality in my own first wave peers, but WOW.... did I need to proctor SATs and give college interviews for my thesis...
On Saturday I participated in my Alma Mater's Interview Day, where alumni give applicants to the school informal interviews. I figure I don't have a lot of money to donate at this point in my life, but I have time, so that's how I give back. I mean they taught me some valuable skills at good ol' Wash U, like how to write well, so you all can read this well written blog. HAHA. Okay back to the point. The kids I interviewed (with the exception of one who was like most of the men I've gone on dates with in my recent dating life, AWKWARD) were fairly normal, which is surprising seeing as the guy assigning the interviews kept throwing the artsy kids at me, since I was the token artsy Wash U kid, as usual. Some of the other kids though! Wow! OVERACHIEVERS. Several interviewers were given multiple page resumes (I mean like 4 and 5 pagers). One kid had a perfect SAT score and was ranked first in his class of 300 and held a record in rubix cube solving. Others had done humanitarian work in Burma as sophomores in high school or ventured to Egypt to learn Arabic. When I was a sophomore in high school I was worried about the zit on my forehead and getting kissed as my new year's resolution. Oh, and another kid gave his interviewer not only a paper he'd written during a SUMMER program on the healthcare issue, BUT ALSO the first chapter to his novel. I'm sad to say that I don't know if myself or any other of my WashU friends would have gotten in today... How the times change.
Also, if nothing else my online dating life has come in handy. I used most of eharmony's profile questions as questions for my interviewees, such as what are three adjectives to describe yourself, what is one thing you wish people would notice about you, etc. I'm glad online dating has given me something, since it certainly hasn't resulted in a relationship or anything...
And lastly the best answer to a question I've heard in awhile:
Interviewer: If you could go to dinner with three people, dead or alive, who would they be?
Student: Ghandi, Lady Gaga and..... yes, definitely Jesus.
Amazing. Those darned Millennials will say the darnest things... Moral, followers of God and Gaga as they are...
So here I dedicate this post to all my WashU TWIMOers for paving the way for these overly zealous youth who will carry the torch of our Alma Mater into the future. I'm just sayin' that we better watch out, cause these kids might just surpass us on our way to greatness...

Things I Dislike
Hi TWIMOers. Once again I apologize for not being around. I think my dreams of TWMIO making the big time are slowly waning, but in an attempt to remain positive in other aspects of my life I’m going to use TWIMO as my platform for complaining about things that currently irk me.
1) People with jobs. J/K. Okay kinda kidding. In truth all of you working people don’t really annoy me, but I’m jealous. Really jealous. And starting to wonder what is wrong with me. Verdict: I love you anyway.
2) Over the Knee Boots. I’m sorry. I know these are the “hot” new thing right now, but quite frankly I think they make people look like hookers. Once again maybe this is a subliminal jealous streak, because I’m pretty sure those boots wouldn’t get up over my chubby knees. No, that's not it, they really just look like hooker boots. Verdict: Skip this trend peeps. Save your money and send it to me at the Save the Sarah Foundation.

*Side note. I heard a rumor that Justin Bieber is making a line of nail polish. This makes me want to barf, especially if it has glitter in it. Blech....
4) Wine-o Painting Studios. Do you know what I’m talking about? In Atlanta at least these places are popping up like the plague. Basically you pay money for a painting lesson and can bring alcoholic beverages with you to sip on while you paint. Hence why many of these establishments have the name “Sips and Strokes.” Now really I do think this sounds like fun (a bunch of girlfriends, vino, and paint), but the artist in me can’t see forking over at least $35 to paint a picture that looks like bad hotel art (because you have to follow along with the instructor). Please look at the link to one of these place’s calendars and see what I mean. Verdict: I’m going to leave these places to the novice painter and buy myself a bottle of three buck chuck and sip and stoke my way to a REAL masterpiece.
*I just read this and realize what a huge snob I sound like. Oh well... I paid a lot of money to be an art school snob.
5) Extremely boring book club books. If you didn’t know, I recently joined a book club (the Scarlet O’Hannahs (you will only get this if you’re a DG)) through the Atlanta Delta Gamma Alumnae chapter, aka my favorite things, books, learning, and sorority girls! So I went to the first installment in October where we read The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir. I go to B&N to purchase the book thinking oh yay! something like The Other Boleyn Girl. No. Not quite. The book is not fiction, could be used as a weapon as it weighs 5lbs, and is 500+ pages long. Regardless, it actually was pretty good and the conversation that ensued was entertaining. The leader is writing a book on the lessons modern women can learn from the six wives, so she wanted us modern women to give our opinions. This month’s book is killing me though. It’s called Revolutionaries (like the men who founded America) by Jack Rakove and it is boring. Like makes me want to put a bayonet through my eye. I ask you where is the chick lit? Where are the fun, imagination jogging fiction books? This is a SORORITY book club for gosh sakes (disclaimer: not that sorority girls are only chick lit readers. The members of this club are very successful, intelligent women) Verdict: I’m going to book club with only half the book read. I just can’t take G.Washington’s antics anymore unless he starts drinking a martini and puts on a pair of Manolos.
So there you have it. Things that annoy me. Remember I have a lot of time to think about such things. So if you’re feeling down and out focus on the positive and blog about the negative because the world is your oyster.

Case in point. Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.
3) Glitter Nail Polish. Apparently this trend has made it full circle circa 1996 as I recently saw that OPI was advertising a new glittered nail enamel collection. Now I know it might seem cool, but think really hard. Channel Hanson and the Backstreet Boys and remember how HARD that stuff was to get OFF. Verdict: Glitter is meant for christmas ornaments and preschool craft projects, not your fingers.*Side note. I heard a rumor that Justin Bieber is making a line of nail polish. Etsy Finds + TWIMO Observes: Pop Culture
Ok, ok. TWIMO-ers YOU ARE SLACKING!!! I MISS YOUR COMMENTS and I FEEL YOU AREN'T GETTING YOUR TWIMO GOSPEL WHEN YOU DON'T LET ME KNOW YOU'RE READING IT!!!
Okay just got off my soapbox. Now I know you're all thriving young professionals and don't have much time to waste, you know watching television etc. and keeping up on your pop culture so I feel I should do my job as the only unemployed person of my friends and inform you about what's happening in the world outside of you know, your JOBS.
1) Starbucks is going to start serving wine and beer. Well, only in Seattle for now, but I'm sure if it makes them a BAZILLION dollars in the West it will soon move East.
2) I've been watching a lot of this show on TLC called Sister Wives about a polygamist family. First of all I don't understand why any man would want to have 4 wives. Think about all that hormonal shit you'd have to put up with. I wouldn't want to put up with 4 of me. Also, they have all these polygamist jokes which I think is funny and WEIRD.
3) While watching Sister Wives I was blessed with seeing the commercials for the up coming reality show called Sarah Palin's Alaska. Yes, that's right folks, Sarah Palin has a reality show. Attention whore, anyone?? Now I abhor this idea, but let's be real, I'm going to watch it. I'll fill you in, in case you miss any wonderful Palin moments.
4) A teen mom on the MTV hit show "Teen Mom" may be charged with domestic violence charges for beating her baby daddy. Poor guy. He just couldn't keep it in his pants. He can't help it. I just feel bad for the kid (the baby. Not the kids having the baby.)
Now hold onto your britches it's ETSY TIME. Recently to A) keep me busy in my boredom and B) calm my nerves I have been working on a needlepoint eyeglass case that my mom bought me. Now every time I sit down to stitch I think, "What am I 80?" but no shame here. In hopes of finding some hipper needlecraft projects I went to Etsy and found these great projects that I know you're all dying to stitch up. *Please note that when I came across these pieces I had simply searched for cross stitch patterns, nothing like pornographic cross stitch patterns.

Um yeah... and this was a tame one.

WHOAAA Bella and Edward. Isn't Twilight for pre-teens??? Oh who am I kidding this is probably considered G-Rated in today's tween world.

And lastly but not least (Erin this one's for you) an RPatts Pillow. Be ready to see that under the tree come x-mas Etabs!
The conclusion I have come to is that women who might buy these projects probably just sit on their couches a lot and make cross stitch pillows so they aren't getting a lot, so these little projects probably keep them a little hot and bothered. You know whatever you gotta do, because the world is your oyster.

TWIMO Observes: A Cat Lady
Yesterday I stopped in at Target on my way home from my seasonal employment interview at Vera Bradley, because obviously I want to be a maven of over priced patterned, quilted tote bags. Verdict: LAME. I'm going to with draw my application. Sorry, TWIMOers, no VB bags for you for X-mas. Anyway while the clerk was ringing up my essentials (pee pads for Clair, TP for me, and a box of Mac and Cheese) an older lady pulled up behind me with her cart and proceeds to unload about 40 cans of cat food, a HUGE container of kitty litter, and lastly about a 50 lbs. bag of dry cat food. I immediately judged this woman as a crazy cat lady and looked to see if she was wearing a glittered puff paint t-shirt adorned with a cat and if that murmuring I heard was her talking to herself. I quickly realized that in fact the murmuring was the gawking noise coming out of my mouth as I imagine the 400 cats this woman was going home to. Right then and there I vowed to myself never, ever to become a cat lady, even if I do spend many of my Saturday nights alone and can't seem to find a boy I like. I, Sarah, will never wear a puff paint cat shirt and buy my weight in meow mix. Period. Let's face it, there are other options, because the world is my oyster.

P.S. Never google image search for "cat lady" photos. The results are horrifying.

Life Lessons
The last few days have been full of life lessons, or confusion... It all started Sunday when the official vehicle of TWIMO, Vicky the Vibe, started acting weird. Then Monday she didn't even work as in kept stalling. Thank the good someone that I didn't make it out onto the road before she stalled, so I had to call a tow truck. That was the first life lesson. Calling a tow truck. And then thanking my lucky stars that my friend Silvia could come pick me up and take me to the dealership so I didn't have to ride between the two burly tow truck men.
The second came today when I was perusing Facebook, as always, and saw a sorority sister in need of turning a word document into a vector image. I was like, "I know how to do that," so I reached out. It turns out I saved her school (where she is a teacher) who was making tote bags with the image on it $35 for the set up fee. Now this makes me feel great... kinda... I'm all about helping out a school, but it literally took me 5 minutes to do the file transformation and most of that time was my computer loading the program (it's a little ancient) and the printing place is charging $35 for it!!! I really need to get into something that pays $35 for 5 minutes of work!!! Way to rip people off screen printing places.
The third life lesson came in the form of an e-mail from a job I applied to for a position in a carpet showroom. The lovely HR manager e-mailed me to tell me that I was over qualified for the position and asked if I was still interested in being considered. Now this really confuses me. I'm unemployed. Does that still make me over qualified? Should I wait it out for something I'm qualified for? ECONOMY STOP MESSING WITH ME. I'M OVER IT. Love, Me.

Bad Economy? No Jobs? No problem.
Holla! Sorry I've been MIA. I guess I've been sooo busy managing my employment search OR I'm just lazy OR my life is too boring to have anything to write about.
Okay, wait, pause. I'm watching Bravo and a commercial for Top Chef just came on and they were saying that if the fiance of one of the contestants knew what she was doing with another contestant they would be in trouble. IT'S TV PEOPLE. The fiance is going to see.... unless he lives in like Bora Bora and I'm sure they get Bravo there too. Sometimes people are so stupid. Okay so back to what's important, my fascinating life.
In my fascinating life I have discovered the way to get a job. You need to live your life as if you aren't looking for a job. AKA plan a trip to your parent's house (that's what I did), buy a plane ticket to Europe, have lunch with Brad Pitt. Whatever. As soon as you plan something awesome those potential employers will come a callin'. Now I do not have a job or offer, but I'm finally getting some responses and in this economy I think that is a win. So good luck my lovely fans (Alison) and start living your life like you've got a pay check.

I'm going to be a bit depressing, but fulfill my OCD desire to count something
I have been unemployed now for 46 days. (I'm counting June 1 as my first day of potential employment, because let's face it I wasn't going to get anything right after I graduated, but 3 days after could have been a possibility). I've sent out 11 resumes (okay one is going in the mail tomorrow). And have heard back with 3 definite we're not hiring. Okay it was more like your stuff looks great, we're interested, but not hiring. I'm not sure which is worse. At least if my stuff was bad it would be my fault I didn't have a job and somehow I think that would be better, as I would have control of the situation (designers have control issues). So, that's where my life is in numbers currently.
But never fear. I have a plan. I am going to get this blog to go viral (can blogs go viral?) for no good reason other than it's something to do while I'm unemployed and then I'll get to go on the Today Show and meet my besties, Matt, Ann, Meredith, and Al and I will definitely get a book deal or column in a renowned publication, like ooohh People or Us Weekly. Dream big. Dream big.

Just Wondering... am I the one having all the fun?
I'm wondering if the saying you always want what you can't have is a true statement. For instance, I'm really jealous of all my friends who are in relationships or married, but are they in turn jealous of my swinging single life? I try to think this as I venture into the world of dating now that I live in a big city. I btw am not a fan of going on these first dates. They are stressful and like being on a job interview (which maybe means I haven't found the right person). I'm using this tactic of thinking others are jealous to keep me going though. Wooo I'm the one havin' all the fun.
A random thought to ponder:
I saw an ad for an automatic soap dispenser the other day. It claimed that there are tons of germs living on your current manual soap dispenser and I don't doubt this, but don't you push it when your hands are dirty and not touch it again once your hands are clean negating the need for never touching it at all. I just think the automatic dispenser might be a bit over kill and feeding all of our neurotic OCD behaviors (you know you have them). Thoughts?

Happy Birthday USA!
Today being the 4th of July, I started thinking about holidays and their meanings. I couldn't think of one all inclusive holiday out of the traditional celebrations that we celebrate. The closest I could think of was Thanksgiving and really not that all inclusive, because what do the Native Americans have to be thankful for? That we didn't completely kill them with small pox? I just think as we are watching fireworks and stuffing our faces with some mean bbq we should think about what we're really celebrating and think about those who maybe aren't included in the celebration and the meaning of the holiday.
Anyway, on a lighter note. I went to Target this morning to buy a laundry basket and walked out with a lamper, yes that's what I said, a lamper. A lamper, for your information, is a laundry basket hamper hybrid that is like an elongated laundry basket. I pretty much just bought it for the name, because it really made me happy to think that someone at the company that made it sat around and came up with the name Lamper. Now that's a company where I could work.
